Care

Thank you for purchasing an Ella McHugh handbag! Our handbags are made in Italy by third generation artisans, using the finest materials.  With gentle handling and proper care you can enjoy your handbag for years to come.

General Care:

  • Over time, you may notice a relaxing of the shape of your handbag and a naturally occurring patina on the leather. This is part of the natural process of wear and adds to the beauty and uniqueness of your handbag.
  • To maintain the shape of your handbag, it should not be over stuffed.
  • When not using your handbag, we recommend storing it in the dust bag provided.

Ostrich, Calf and Lamb

  • To clean, wipe gently with a soft cloth.
  • In case of stains or scratches, gently attempt to remove them with a soft, damp cloth; dry immediately.
  • Please avoid exposing your handbag to direct heat sources, oil, water, lotions, creams, make-up, and extremes of humidity and temperature.  Exposure may damage the leather.
  • Please note that exposure to light may cause variations in color over time.
  • Please do not use any chemical solutions or wax-based products for cleaning.
  • To preserve the look and feel of your handbag, please avoid contact with rough, hard or sharp objects or surfaces.  These may cause damage or premature wear.
  • Please note that in the case of hair calf, prolonged contact with paper or other materials (during storage) may cause some color transfer from the bag to the storage material.

Python and Karung:

  • To clean, wipe gently with a soft cloth.
  • Please avoid exposing your handbag to direct heat sources, oil, water, lotions, creams, make-up, and extremes of humidity and temperature.  Exposure may damage the leather.
  • Please note that exposure to light may cause variations in color over time.
  • Special care should be taken with python and karung skins to protect against humidity, water and other liquids.  They may cause permanent staining or color transfer. Should your handbag get wet, gently blot the affected area with a clean, soft, light-colored cloth.
  • Please note that with exposure to light, time and use, the scales on your bag may lift. Once this occurs it is not possible to reverse and should be considered a natural feature of all snakeskin.
  • Please do not use any chemical solutions or wax-based products for cleaning.
  • To preserve the look and feel of your handbag, please avoid contact with rough, hard or sharp objects or surfaces.  These may cause damage or premature wear.
